DA Hike Update : 3 percent hiked DA for government employees by the Center in July 2024. Now, the dearness allowance would be 53 percent for central employees on the basis of basic pay. This DA hike has been introduced with effect from July 1, 2024. In addition, after the DA crossed the tipping point of 50 percent, the salary that central government employees received in hand actually increased significantly due to all the other peripherals that the government provided.
Let us remind you that the Seventh Pay Commission had suggested enhancing many more dues on the establishment of dearness allowance (DA) at 50 percent. After the completion of a year’s time (from January 1, 2024) with the increase in DA, 13 other important allowances were also raised. Moreover, in September, two more allowances, nursing and clothing allowances, were again revised for eligible employees.
According to the circular order issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) on July 4, 2024, “In this respect, attention is invited to the following orders issued earlier/disseminated by the Department of Expenditure/DoPT from 01.10.2017: increase dearness allowance, from 4 percent to 50 percent; and also from 01.01.2024, the appended allowances would be admissible for payment at the increased rates of 25 percent over the present rates, wherever applicable.”
Increase In Dress Allowance
“In the Office Memorandum referenced above, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare states, “The rate of dress allowance will be increasing at 25% each time the dearness allowance payable on the revised pay scale increases by 50%.”
Increase In Nursing Allowance
The Office Memorandum under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare dated 17 September 2024 stated, “Nursing allowance shall be payable to all nurses either working in dispensaries or hospitals.” So, “”The said OM inter alia mentions that the rate of nursing allowance will be increased by 25% in every case when the dearness allowance admissible on the revised pay scale increases by 50%.
When 8th Pay Commission Be Implemented
Normally, it has become every 10 years for implementing the Central Pay Commission. The central government staff use this scheme to get salary, allowances, and various other benefits. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted on 28 February 2014 under the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The implementation of recommendations was made on 19 November 2015.
Let it be said here that now, the 8th Pay Commission will be constituted. But recently Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, while replying in the Lok Sabha, said that no proposal regarding the 8th Pay Commission is on the cards right now at all.
